Hi there. I have been collecting Louis Vuitton bags for nearly 6 years now. There are many many different ways to tell if it is real or a knock off. It would of course help to know which bag you own (epi, monogram, damier collection…etc…).

Assuming you received a monogram bag (classic brown LV logos and quadrafoils on it).

I would first look for date code NOT SERIAL NUMBER. Many people call it a serial number when in fact it is called Date Code. Now, as for the code it should begin with 2 letters followed by 4 numbers. The Model number of the bag is NOT a date code and is NEVER stamped inside the bag.

Secondly….Authentic Vuittons should NEVER EVER have a tag hanging off the bag, a green envelope, white paper tags with a model number and certainly not certificate of authenticity. Vuitton does not do this.

Third would be lining. There are many different linings from Alcantara (raspberry, charcoal or beige colored). Brown cotton coated canvas lining, leather lined etc… The interior should be fine and soft. Not hard beige uneven suede like materials.

Forth would have to be stamping and if it matched the date code. Example made in U.S.A have certain date codes. made in France have others as well as made in Spain and made in Italy (mind you, only very very few are made in Italy).

one big difference you can from a real to a fake is that a fake louis vuitton will most likely have the L V logo cut off but real one almost never has a cut in half L V. I learned this from a sales woman at a local louis vuitton store because i had the same question. you should also take the purse to a louis vuitton store to check it out. and if it is a fake purse and when you bought it from wearever you bought it from and they told you it is real they can get in a lot of trouble for that so you should report it because i know of a store that got shut down about a year ago for trying to sell a fake purse as a real one to a girl. sorry for my poor punctuation

To know if you have a real Louis Vuitton it should have a small (white & gold) authorized charm that come with it that says LV on your strap & towards the coin pocket of the bag that says the logo. If it don't you probably have a knock off I suggest go to a luxury department store that sell Louis Vuitton give that knock off to your little sister.

If it says LV on it then its real. Knockoffs arent allowed to use the logo or real name. If its a knockoff it would say something like WV. ANd you can always check on the inside of the purse. If Louis Vuitton is spelled out its real. And there should be a tag with a serial number on it as well. Hope this helped!

WHY does it matter? How shallow…..why don’t you take it back, and use the money to give to a local orphanage or children’s hospital….give gifts, and get over your shallow priorities, good GOD! lame. sad. and just heartbreaking.

you can tell by the stitching, and if it is real leather or not, but I'm not sure but I don't think that real Louis button is made of real leather!

I heard that real ones will never have an LV logo cut by a seam. Meaning only full logos should appear on the outside of the bag.

If it appears to be cheaply made, it’s probably a fake. If it appears to be well made, who cares if it’s a fake!
